Can your creative skills help us use better clipart than this? :)

Safiyya and I are looking for a third cofounder to join us in developing Maptio. Could this be you, or someone you know? We’re at an exciting moment for the company and we’re on a meaningful mission.

Our mission

We’re not creating a startup with a goal of being the next unicorn or to make ourselves huge sums of money for the sake of it. We’re shooting for something even bigger:

Maptio exists to help people develop progressive organisations that can realise purposeful ideas in the world.

Where we’re at

Our big-picture to-do list:

  1. Ship a working product — DONE!
  2. Prove there’s a market by selling our first subscriptions — DONE!
  3. Refine the product ready for launch — In progress
  4. Design and build the next layer of essential features — In progress
  5. Launch Maptio to the world — To do in 2019
  6. Continuous improvement and scaling — To do
  7. Develop more tools and services to support our mission — To do
  8. Bask in the feeling of having made a positive dent in the universe.

What we need

Our dream co-founder will have:

All-round product and design skills

Product and UX strategy; research; designing the detail of features in the product itself; product owner capabilities.

Entrepreneurial mindset

Comfortable with bootstrapping and making smart compromises. Being flexible and pitching in wherever needed. Switching between big-picture thinking and minute detail in a single day. Ability and desire to learn and adapt as the company grows.

Commitment

This is not a full-time gig right now but it will require a significant portion of each working week. As the company grows and can sustain us full-time we’ll expect the co-founders to fully commit.

Interest in the Future of Work

We’re helping companies break free from traditional management hierarchies and meaningless work, and explore more human and creative ways of organising and working. Do articles like this, this and this get you interested?

What we can offer

  • We are boot-strapping and pre-launch so we are not paying ourselves yet. Instead, we can offer an equity deal, based on what you are bringing and your commitment, and we’ll all get paid as we grow revenue or take investment.
  • As the company grows you’ll have a chance to shape your own role as we bring on more colleagues to join us to complement our individual strengths and passion.
  • Working with a team that doesn’t just say they have values but has actually demonstrated how they value diversity, balance, and heart whilst being ambitions about doing something significant.
  • Never allowing money to be our North Star. Instead, we get money working in service of our mission. We’ll only take investment if we’re certain it won’t compromise the integrity of what we are doing. We are building a company for the long-term, not to sell. If we do this well it will be rewarding for everyone.
  • We embrace remote working and will consider people located anywhere within 5 hours of GMT (so we don’t have to do too many early morning or evening video calls.) However, if you’re based in the South-East of England that would be even better.
  • A chance to eat our own dogfood and build a truly progressive, purposeful organisation to show the world what’s possible.
  • Being part of a team with diverse backgrounds. We will never hire for ‘culture fit.’

Could this be you?

If you’d like to explore this with us, please email <tom at maptio dot com> telling us:

  1. A little about your background and previous work / portfolio;
  2. What you would feel most energised to contribute to Maptio;
  3. What speaks to you about our mission and this invitation.

If there’s a potential fit, we will have a video call then take it from there.

Can you refer someone to us?

Here’s an offer. If you refer someone I’m not already connected to who eventually joins us as a co-founder I’ll either buy you dinner at one of Brighton’s very best restaurants or send you a voucher for a top restaurant where you live, and you can treat a friend. Now, is there anyone you can think of to send this to?
